Carpentry and timber repairs in Sydney
Doors that will not shut, skirting that has come away, a shelf that needs building properly. The small timber work most builders will not come out for.

What has usually gone wrong with the timber
A door that sticks, drops or will not latch
Nine times out of ten a door that has stopped closing has not warped. The house has moved a little, the hinges have pulled, or the strike plate is a few millimetres out. It is a half hour job if you know what you are looking at and a very long afternoon if you do not.
- Hinges packed or re-cut so the door hangs square again
- Strike plate moved and the latch re-aligned
- Bottom rail trimmed and sealed where the door catches the floor
- New hinges, closers or handles fitted where the old ones are worn out
A door dropped out of square in its frameSkirting, architraves and the bits that finish a room
Skirting comes away from the wall, architraves split at the mitre, a scotia, the small moulding at the floor or ceiling edge, lifts after a leak. It is the trim that decides whether a room reads as finished or as almost finished, and it is fiddly work that rewards a sharp mitre.
- Damaged lengths replaced and matched to the existing profile
- Mitres re-cut, glued and pinned so the joint closes properly
- Gaps filled, sanded and left ready for paint
- Cut-ins around new flooring, vanities and built-ins
A cornice mitre cut and set, tape still onShelving, storage and small timber builds
A linen shelf, a garage storage wall, a bench in a laundry, a timber garden bed. Jobs too small for a joiner and too involved for a flat pack. We build them on site.
- Set out on site so it fits the space you actually have
- Fixed into studs and noggins, not into sheeting alone
- Timber selected for where it goes, treated pine outside
- Left clean, filled and ready for paint or oil
A garage storage wall, part way through the buildFour steps, no surprises
Send a photo
A photo of the door, the gap or the space tells us most of what we need.
We price it
A plain written quote, itemised, with what is and is not included.
We cut on site
Set out, cut and fitted on the day, and the offcuts go with us.
We check it works
Doors opened and closed, drawers run, before we leave.
Timber work we have finished
Real photographs from our own jobs.
Overhead cabinets and splashback, fitted and finished
A treated pine garden bed, built on site
The deck door from our flyscreen job, screen sitting square
The jobs a builder will not take are the jobs we are built for.
- The small jobs are the whole business. A door, a fence panel, a list of five things. That is the work we are set up for, not the leftovers between big jobs.
- You get the price before we start. Quotes are free and in writing, itemised, valid 30 days, and the quote says what is not included. Nothing is due on labour up front, and you can cancel at no cost before materials are ordered.
- We say no when it is not our job. A full custom kitchen is a cabinetmaker job, and electrical, plumbing and gasfitting are licensed trades. We treat waterproofing the same way by choice. We will point you at the right person rather than take it on.
- Up to 5 years on our workmanship. 5 years on what we build new, 3 years on repairs to what was already there. On top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which no warranty can take away.
What people ask about carpentry
Usually yes. Most doors that stick have moved at the hinge or the strike plate rather than warped, and re-hanging costs a fraction of a new door and frame. If the door itself has swelled or delaminated we will tell you that up front rather than charge you to plane it twice.
We do the carpentry around them. Hanging and adjusting doors, fitting shelving, cutting in skirting and trim, timber repairs and small builds. A full custom kitchen is a cabinetmaker job and we will say so.
We will try. Older profiles are not always still made, so on those we either source the closest match or run the new length so the change happens at a corner where the eye does not catch it. We will show you the option before we cut anything.
Yes. Shelving, benches and storage walls built on site to the space, fixed into the frame. We will talk through load before we build, because a shelf that holds paint tins and a shelf that holds a tool chest are not the same shelf.
Yes. New work we build carries a 5 year workmanship warranty and repairs to existing timber carry 3 years, both covering our own workmanship. Timber movement, weathering and damage from something else are not covered, and neither is work someone alters afterwards.

Most jobs can be priced from two or three photos, so you do not have to wait around for someone to come and look at a door.

Other things we get asked to do on the same visit
Most of the cost of a small repair is getting there, so anything else on this list can go on the same quote and the same day.
More on this: why a door stops closing, and how to fix it.
