What we get called for

What usually breaks first in concrete

Failed thresholds

A threshold or step edge that has blown out

The call usually comes after someone catches a toe on it. Water has been getting under the edge for a few winters, the slab has let go around the fixings, and the first loose chunk has quickly become three. On a shopfront that stops being cosmetic the day a customer trips.

  • Loose and drummy material, which is concrete that sounds hollow when you tap it, cut back to something sound
  • Edges squared so the repair has a shoulder to key into
  • Patched, floated and finished flush with what is there
  • Sealed at the junction so water stops getting underneath

New slabs and paths

A small slab or path a concreter will not price

You want a bin pad or a shed slab, you ring three concreters, and nobody rings back. Volume concreters are set up for driveways and house slabs, so a small pour gets a big price or silence. We are set up the other way round: the short run of path, the landing, the slab you can walk around in a minute.

  • Formed up square, with the fall running away from the building
  • Poured on a compacted base, not on soft ground
  • Edges and joints finished clean, broom or float finish as agreed
  • Cure time told to you straight before we pour, not after

How it works

Four steps, and one wait

01

Send a photo

A photo of the break, with something in frame for scale, gets us close.

02

We look at access

Whether a truck can reach it changes the method and the price.

03

We prep and pour

Cut back, form up, pour, finish, and cut joints where needed.

04

We tell you the cure

When you can walk on it, and when you can drive on it.

Our own work

The call outs start like this

A shopfront threshold blown apart at the door track. The fix is not complicated, it is careful: cut back to sound concrete, form the edge square, pour it level and seal the junction so the water stops getting in. Exactly the size of concrete job we are built for.

Why us

The jobs a builder will not take are the jobs we are built for.

  • The small jobs are the whole business. A door, a fence panel, a list of five things. That is the work we are set up for, not the leftovers between big jobs.
  • You get the price before we start. Quotes are free and in writing, itemised, valid 30 days, and the quote says what is not included. Nothing is due on labour up front, and you can cancel at no cost before materials are ordered.
  • We say no when it is not our job. Not full driveways, and anything that changes the crossover between the road and your boundary needs council approval, which is the owner’s to arrange. Electrical, plumbing and gasfitting are licensed trades, and we refer waterproofing out as well.
  • Up to 5 years on our workmanship. 5 years on what we build new, 3 years on repairs to what was already there. On top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which no warranty can take away.

FAQs

What people ask about concreting

As a rule of thumb keep foot traffic off for about 48 hours and vehicles off for about a week. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after the pour, so the longer you can leave it the better it will wear.

Not exactly, and anyone who promises it will is guessing. New concrete cures lighter and the surrounding slab has years of weathering on it. We match the finish and the level so it reads as one surface, and the colour closes up over the following months.

Not full driveways. This is maintenance concreting: repairs, thresholds, steps, paths, pads and small slabs. A whole driveway is a specialist concreter job and worth getting quoted as one.

All concrete moves, which is why joints get cut into slabs. The joints give the slab a planned place to relieve stress, so fine movement along a joint is normal rather than a fault. We will point out where the joints are before we leave.

For repairs and small pads inside your property, generally not. Anything that changes the crossover between the road and your boundary usually does need council approval, and that is the owner's to arrange. We will tell you if we think a job crosses that line.
